The International Arts Centre LE1 3UA
The Drum Academy is located right in the centre of Leicester. The complex is purpose built and fully equipped with Yamaha, Premier and Mapex drum kits. The Drum Academy is run by Richard Pells who has been a professional teacher and player for 21 years. Richard has been playing since the age of 6 and has gained much experience over the years in orchestral, brass band, band work, depping & theatre work (most recently Leicester Curves "King & I" and currently the The King & I National UK Tour). In addition to running the Drum Academy for nearly 20 years, Richard has also taught in many schools, colleges and music stores throughout Leicestershire and the midlands. The Drum Academy was very instrumental in creating the drum kit part of the Access to Music syllabus in the 1990's with the Drum Academy's purpose built studios being used to host the drum kit lessons for the first 7 years of the course. The Drum Academy is very pleased to be associated with two great, local professional drummers/educators, Chris Earp and the legendary Dougie Wright. Chris Earp has been a professional player and teacher for 15 years and played all over the world with various bands. In addition to his work at the Drum Academy, Chris also teaches at Ratcliffe College and other Leicestershire schools.
Dougie Wright is a highly experienced drummer and teacher. Dougie has played on many no.1 and top ten hits of the 60's and 70's including: Hi Ho Silver Lining, Make it Easy on Yourself, Beautiful Sunday, Je T'Aime, World Without Love, My Coo Ca Choo...the list goes on...Dougie also played in the John Barry Seven and TV credits include the Parkinson show through the 70's
Adam Reeves has been passionately playing the drums for almost 15 years and has a particular love for Rock Music & funky grooves. Having begun his learning at The Drum Academy, Adam gained a BA Hons in Contemporary Music Performance at London’s prestigious Tech Music Schools. Throughout this time, work as a professional drummer brought many performing opportunities his way, including theatre pit work, professional recording studio time, as well as playing on the bill at many famous London venues. Adam is also a fully qualified classroom music teacher and co-runs Rock Solid Academy, providing contemporary music workshops for young people in Leicester. |
